I would recommend the City Plaza hotel in Athens as it is a safe and clean hotel near the Metro system (1-2 stops from the Acropolis). The beds were a little hard but that may be normal in Europe. The staff was personable and helpful.

I stayed here for 2 nights and although at first I was a bit disappointed because it appeared to be in an unsafe neighborhood I ended up quite happy with it. It is not within walking distance of the tourist sights but the metro is just around the corner in victoria square and it is easy to get to from the airport with just one metro change. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel and loved it. The only thing is that the site indicates that they are walking distance to the Acropolis and other sights....NO WAY! But the transit system is very close, just a few blocks up and easy and affordable to use. We even used it to get to the port to catch our cruise. The rooftop restaurant is fantastic! View - food - service was never lacking. The hotel is not located in the best area but we never felt in danger, just not real pretty. Room is on the small side but have stayed in smaller and paid a lot more. We would recommend it highly and for the price - it's a fantastic value.
