The hotel offers a total of 52 rooms behind its 15th century exterior, which is now an historic monument. It welcomes guests with traditional Brussels charm. This city hotel is ideally situated for a stay in Brussels, in the heart of the historic city, on Montagne Street. The hotel is close to the central train station and public transport links, which are just 150 m away, and the Grand Square, which is only 50 m from the hotel. Dating back to the founding of Brussels, this hotel takes its place on the Merchant's Route which cuts through Brussels and links Flanders with the Rhineland. This street, which at first was not very wide, was originally flanked by numerous inns. At the end of the 17th century, the street was widened to accommodate traffic. Brussels Airport (BRU) is 35 km from the hotel.

Feeling the heat at La Madelaine

Our guidebook of Brussels described La Madelaine as "friendly beneath a shabby exterior". I can't argue with this. The hotel is a budget destination with decor to match. That said, it was clean and tidy and the breakfast buffet was acceptable. However, having stayed there during one of the hottest days of the year, I would not recommend it for a summer trip. The room had no air-conditioning and was so hot that sleeping was almost impossible. In summary, La Madeleine is a budget, "shabby chic" hotel to be avoided during a heatwave.

location is great so would definitely recommend it. the room that we got was a bit small and got no view at all (facing the middle of the hotel so can only see the air-cond compressor etc..and the room is not sound proof!can hear people talking and floor creaking...but the services was not bad and breakfast was ample. So overall, we'l give 3 out of 5!

Pretty Good Option Overall

There is nothing extraordinary about La Madeleine, but it was good value for my money. The location couldn't be more convenient, being right between the Central Station and the Grand Place (approximately 200 meters from each), the room and lobby were pleasant and clean, the breakfast basic but adequate, and the service perfectly acceptable. I imagine it might be too hot in the summer if your room lacks AC, as mine did, but I have no other complaints.

Excellent hotel

This is a great little hotel. It is very central -- only 2-3 minutes walk to the Grand Place. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely and really good value for money. I cannot fault the cleanliness of the hotel at all -- it was very well kept. Breakfast was good -- great selection. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel.

Good value for money

Location of this hotel was ideal - 100 yards from the Grand' Place. There was a problem with some traffic noise and early morning dustcarts, but overall the hotel proved good value for money. Our room was clean, the breakfast was adequate and the hotel staff were accommodating and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel for an inexpensive stay in the centre of Brussels.
