Faded Grandeur

The Stanhope is perfectly acceptable. For my part - I stay in a lot of hotels - I notice a lot of things which shouldn't be in a 5 star hotel such as graffiti in the lifts and scuffs along the walls. Breakfast was very much 5-star. Location is good for the E.U. and reasonable for tourists although I'd prefer to be more central as a traveller.

Property has obviously seen better days and the interiors were incredibly dated (Think Dynasty....) after the beautiful Julian Hotel we had stayed at in Antwerp. The staff were obnoxious, breakfast had no butter, milk nor a knife and the cooked breakfast we had ordered didn't turn up at all as chef was "yet to start" (Bit of a worry as it was only an hour before the breakfast service began) We were disgusted to say the least but I guess you get what you pay for! It is a joke to think that some rooms are recently renovated and as our rooms weren't ready when we checked in we mistakenly accepted a smoking room to freshen up. When we asked to be moved the receptionist was nothing short of rude and when we returned later nothing had been done and we were treated with the same disdain! AVOID THIS "HOTEL" AT ALL COSTS. There are boutique hotels out there making places like this look very bad indeed!!!

Appearance is of a generally very good hotel, but just falls short of its five stars. I stayed three nights and every morning had to look at five plates to find one clean at breakfast. Reception where very helpful, the porter however was discourteous not only to me but other guests.

A five star hotel which deserves its stars – a pearl! Attentive staff, superb rooms with good beds. Separate toilet and bathroom (with shower cubicle and bathtub), lovely toiletries. Superb location for the European Parliament in a very quiet street. High prices during the week, but often good offers during week-ends – let yourself be pampered there with your spouse and enjoy Brussels one week-end.
