Review Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre

Not bad at all

 4/5

Review by: , Sheffield, United Kingdom

Stayed: May 2012

Got the hotel for around £150 for three nights, we found the hotel clean, efficient and welcoming depending on who was on the desk! Taxi from the train station was around 12 euros, although you can use metro for half the price. To walk to the grand place it took around 15 min. Not sure whether the hotel was situated near the red light district, this made the walk home at night feel a little uneasy. But didn't stop us from doing so. Our booking didn't include breakfast, this could be purchased at a weekend rate of around 15 euros each for continental breakfast. not sure whether this was worth the price or not. There was a supermarket to the right of hotel and a grill to the left, they did breakfast menus but didn't ever try it. Double room was two beds pushed together, this didn't bother us though

Reasonable hotel in Brussels

In a city of overpriced hotels, this hotel offers a good location and pleasant rooms for a reasonable price. Breakfast is good and the weight room, though small, is never crowded. Not bad by Brussels standards.

Poor aircon and room to room noise

 2/5

Review by: , London, United Kingdom

Stayed: Jun 2008

I wouldn't recommend it. The aircon has a filter with at least 1cm of dust so in effect it does not work. It's not been cleaned for several years. The room is very hot and very stuffy. There was lots of noise coming I assume from other rooms as I was on the 29th floor ! It was hard to sleep. Rooms are certainly not large and the WiFi/internet is the highest rate I've seen in a hotel. The breakfast is OK but only if it's included in the rate otherwise it's 15 euros and I don't think you can justify sitting in a basement with this price. TIP if you are forced to book here, go to the 19th floor and use the stairs to pick up free Wifi from the building opposite (WTC 3) - or try to get the 19th floor - only appears to work there.

This hotel is located within walking distance from Brussels Nord train station, the main pedestrian shopping street, and 10 min away from the famous town hall. The room was clean, of decent size, and came with a standard size bathroom. The staff was helpful.

For better or worse the Tulip Inn Brussels Boulevard can be described as a machine. It runs well, but is rather soulless. It is very conveniently located in walking distance from the Brussels North railway station with its direct link to and from the airport, a metro-station nearby, and a leisurely walk to the Grand’ Place. Long queues when checking in and out are common, breakfast somewhat uninspired but adequate. The rooms are OK, not at all oversized, but with a comfortable chair, efficiently laid out workspace and wireless internet connection (at a price). The hotel is starting to show its age somewhat. Soap dispensers have replaced the previous modest but acceptable soap bar and shampoo – a sure sign of economies at all levels. Sometimes this hotel can be a bargain, other times not. Altogether, not a hotel you fall in love with, but it works.

It would have been nice to have had access to the internet from my room via a wireless connection.

Hotel close to staion/gare du nord and the metro/rogier is right across the road,as is city2 shopping centre and the rue de neuve,a main shopping area. The hotel is clean and good on the eye,the staff are happy in manner and to help you.The room was very clean and well kept,it was also cleaned every day,bed made towels changed. My only complaint would be that the room i had the walls were a bit thin so it could be a bit noisy, but it would not put me off staying there on my next visit, this was nothing compared to the pluses of this hotel.

Excellent value for the rates offered through skoosh. The hotel reception and dining areas are very well decorated. The bedrooms are well fitted and a high level of cleanliness can be seen in the bathrooms. All staff were helpful, polite and staff on reception were multi lingual. Hotel situation is excellent for easy access to main shopping areas and the Rogier Metro gives easy access to all other areas of Brussels. Hotel bedrooms also have access to internet for laptop users. Would recommend the hotel to both business and holiday travellers. Thanks skoosh will also use you again.
