Reviews Of Normafa Hotel, Budapest,

Review by: Alan Williams, High Wycombe, United Kingdom

Hotel lived up to our expectations from reading reviews written by previous guests. It was well located for us, being an easy bus ride into Budapest but with immeadiate access to the lovely countryside of the Buda hills. Our room was clean and comfortable although we had a slight concern about it being rather overheated when we arrived, as it was located above the sauna, but ventilation cooled the room down for subsequent nights. The pool and gardens were very pleasant and well maintained. Reception staff speak good english and were very helpful. Food was excellent with a wide breakfast choice and we enjoyed the other meals we had in the hotel's restaurant and adjoining Normafa Grill. Beware the practice in Hungary of pricing fresh juice on menus per 100ml - a normal glass of 300ml ends up being quite expensive.

A nice, restful hotel, in a good quiet location high in the Buda Hills, away from the heat and bustle of Budapest (access to the city centre 15-20mins by bus). The room was on the small side, with two single beds pushed together rather than a double, but was clean and comfy for a 3-night stay. Sadly though, we asked for non-smoking but were in a smoking room and the smell had hung around. The room itself overlooked the restaurant terrace (not all rooms have a balcony as we had read somewhere), but it was never noisy at night. The staff on the whole were friendly and helpful (with one exception) and whilst the leisure facilities were good (pool/sauna etc), the restaurants were disappointing; the terrace area was shut for a private function the night we tried to eat there, and the food at the hotel's 'grill' was not cooked well (or rather, was cooked too well). An enjoyable stay, and we would definately recommend the hotel, but it was perhaps not as 'wondrous' as we had read elsewhere.

Hotel was set in beautful grounds in a lovely (but hard to reach!!) part of Budapest. The pool area was particularly nice and the staff were very friendly and keen to offer assistance when asked. My expectations were more than met but we did find it very hard to reach. I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to friends and family members.

Fantastic value for money hotel. Great breakfast. Evening meals are a little expensive. Great position 20 minutes from town at the end of a bus route - so there is always one waiting.
