We had an excellent visit at Francis Marion.
People have to understand this is a old hotel with grace and charm not a brand new place!

Location, location, LOCATION!!! My husband and I would stay here again. The Francis Marion is a lot like a boutique hotel in NYC: small but nice rooms, with incredible views. Since you aren't in the room much (sight-seeing and shopping in Carleston is wonderful) the Francis Marion is a very nice place to rest your head.

The Francis Marion has a beautiful lobby, and the staff was all very helpful--especially the woman who handled tourist information.

However, they are a significant hike from the historic area sights and many restaurants. (Nothing they can do about this.) The Swamp Fox Restaurant breakfast was adequate (nice waitstaff, though)--I don't know about the other meals.

Also, being a historic building, the rooms can be a bit small. My husband and I are average-to-small-sized, and we found the space between the end of the bed and the dresser in our room a bit narrow (also a problem in the bathroom). We were given a room described as having a view, but from this location, the view is mostly rooftops! (Likely for most rroms in the hotel.) Not really important, but it did seem odd to tout our room as one with a view.

Yes, I would recommend to others. Very elegant hotel, super comfy beds, beautifully decorated; however, very tiny bathrooms. Good price in comparison to other similar hotels in Charleston. My expectations were indeed met.

I would easily recommend the hotel to family and friends. The hotel was in a perfect location and easy access to the main attractions in the Historic District, such as the Market, main great shopping on King St. and great restaurants. My wife and I were very impressed with the staff from the bell staff o the front desk staff to the restaurant staff. We would defintely vist Charleston and Francis Marion Hotel again.
