Kaomai Lanna comes from two northern Thai words. Kaomai means bush or a garden with big trees while Lanna is the name of the ancient northern Thai kingdom. Together Kaomai Lanna means the pleasant garden of Lanna.
Kaomai Lanna Hotel and Resort is a unique boutique accommodation on the route from Chiang Mai to Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand.
An interesting outing is to take a short sightseeing trip to the historial site at Viang Tha Karn, three kilometres from the resort, to see the ruins of an 800-year-old town. Visitors can wander through a cluster of ancient pagodas, and view buddha images and ruins of ancient temples reflecting the glory days from Hariphunchai to the Lanna Kingdoms in the 13th Century, before the establishment of Chiang Mai.
On the ground, many varieties of palm trees abound along with wild orchids hanging from giant trees, big clumps of bamboo and several kinds of tropical plants.
In Kaomai Lanna, eighteen barns have been renovated into thirty-six guestrooms. Looking at these barns from the outside, one can see the roofs made of corrugated steel sheets and the old red-brick walls. Step inside however, and the two storey guestrooms are decorated in Thai contemporary style, each equipped with modern facilities including a television, refrigerator and bathtub.
