Poor Customer Service

Somewhere along the way - whether it was through Skoosh or on the hotel's end, I don't know - my room reservation was changed from one style of room (King/Queen) to another (Full). This was an unwelcome surprise when we opened the door to the room, but even more surprising was the hotel's unwillingness to help remedy the unfortunate situation. Granted, this mistake may have been made prior to the hotel receiving the reservation... but at the end of the day, a guest interacts with the actual hotel and the hotel staff. In this case, the hotel staff was unwilling to make the situation right. So our stay at a decent hotel was overshadowed by poor customer service.

The Essex Inn was a great value! Fit and finish and furnishings in the room were excellent. We were lucky enough to have a corner room with a partial lake / park view. We were pleasantly surprised. We expected to not to have such a great view given the amazing deal we got while booking. We did however find the bathroom and overall square footage of the room somewhat lacking. But everything else more than made up for it. Staff was pleasant and prompt. We would return and recommend.

We were able to get an exceptionally good price for the three nights of our conference. The rooms were clean and updated. The staff was courteous and helpful. We had two difficulties with our room. Our sink was clogged, but the staff quickly fixed that problem. The biggest inconvenience was the climate control system. It is either on heat, neutral or cooling. While we were there the weather dictated that the whole system be on neutral - meaning we had to open our window because the system was not working. It was uncomfortably warm a good part of the night and because we had to open our window we had to listen to all the sounds of the city - which might be soothing if you like the sound of the city. Given the location, price and cleanliness, I would stay there again.

I would recommend this hotel to others, because the rooms were clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and it was a great value. The only thing that I would note is that it is about a mile or so from downtown/shopping area, but it was a nice weekend when we were there, so it was fine to walk. Also, if you're into sushi, there is a great place right next door called Oysy - vary good prices and wonderful food!
