Thought the recent upgrades to the rooms were very nice. I enjoyed the flat screen and corner room. The staff was helpful and the hotel was a great value and location. The parking was expensive at $37 a day. After 3 pm checkout it goes up $14 - $20 an hour. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to others. Weight room and pool were good. |

I would have been satisfied with the Essex if I'd paid considerably more, but for the $89 a night I paid through skoosh.com, it was outstanding! The room was smallish but very comfortable. The hotel has clearly been remodeled in the past few years and, and while it wasn't plush and ornate, it was perfectly pleasant and comfortable. The king-size bed was nice and firm with a cozy duvet. Everything was clean and in working order--the one problem (a light that burned out on the second day) was fixed promptly. The wireless Internet was fast and reliable. The staff was attentive, friendly and helpful. The location is great--right on Michigan Avenue, an easy walk to the Art Institute and a short cab ride to the Miracle Mile. I would definitely stay here again! |

The location was perfect for me - right on Michigan Ave, just a few steps from my conference room. It's quite a walking distance to the shopping district however - 20-30 min maybe. The price was great compared to everything around it. Underground parking was provided, but spendy. Room service (breakfast) was very fast, but the food was mediocre. My room was very clean and there was no noise from within the hotel, but he train is only 2 blocks away. All in all not a bad experience and I would probably stay there again, although wouldn't necessarily eat there. |

We attended an event at Soldier Field and decided to stay at the Essex Inn because of its close location to the stadium. We weren't disappointed. We were able to walk to the stadium via a walking path that extends over Columbus on 18th Street. The staff at the Essex was also friendly and the room, although a little small, was very clean and clearly well maintained. I would recommend the Essex Inn to anyone planning on activities in the South Loop or downtown area. |
