I would recommend this hotel. First it was affordable, second it was 1 block off of Michigan Avenue. The only down side was the elevators. We did walk down 26 flights a couple of times.

A great choice for the price, local and quality of the room. I had a king-sized bed--quite comfortable. The staff members I encountered were polite and addressed my modest requests. My corner room was large and had a wonderful view of the Chicago River. Decent tasting coffee for the in-room coffee maker. The bathroom was large and clean. The hotel has a new restaurant opening soon but there were sufficient places nearby to substitute. Hotel provided in-room WiFi at no cost. I stayed four nights while attending a meeting. I know others who payed for two nights what I spent for four. I would stay at Hotel 71 again!

This is just a hotel.. no additional features. At the time we were there, no restaurant, no bar, no swimming pool.. nothing more than rooms. The rooms were a bit dated. The bath tubs were scratched up, towels were super thin (I think you could see through them), and our air conditioner had issues. Having said that, the room was not uncomfortable, just not as top notch as we expected.

GOOD:
I stayed on the 26th floor, with incredible views that included the Chicago River, Wrigley Building and the new Trump building.
Room was a good size, no claustrophobia here. The closet was in the bathroom, odd, but not the end of the world.

BAD: Staying on the 26th floor meant using the "purple" elevators. With these elevators in perpetual dysfunction, wait time for an elevator was often 5-10 minutes. 5 minutes may not sound like much, but when waiting for an elevator it's an eternity.
One of the most uncomfortable beds I have ever found at a hotel or anywhere else. In addition, the bedding materials were pretty low quality and did not feel fresh or clean.
The cleanliness of the room was questionable at best.
Horrible, mercurial water pressure and temperature control in the shower went along nicely with the awful, cheap bath towels.

Hotel 71 was a nice place to stay in the center of Chicago. The room was ok though the bathroom left more to be desired. The drain plug was broken and the tub floor had some chips. I really liked the Chaise lounge in the room and the king size bed. The views were also stunning especially during the thunder storm.
