Needed a place to stay for one night in Edinburgh, and wanted to be close to Rose St. This place is right on Rose, close to where cars and come (a lot of Rose St is closed to traffic). That is the good part. The bad part was the noise at night, and not from the pub crawlers, it was when the pubs started dumping their days worth of bottles in the bins in the alley behind the pubs, which was also the side of the hotel I was on. It would pay to ask for a room on the street side, but then I suppose you would have the noise of the revelers, which frankly I would have picked over the bottles being dumped. Room itself was fine, no safe, check in not until 3, but they do have a common area bad drop room.

Truly, a very nasty experience indeed. In fact, we heard they are closing the hotel, and frankly I can see why. It was on Rose Street (why didn't I think, a street thronged with pubs/bars) ... and party animals were screeching and cackling all night long.

On checkout, my wife and I presented the reception with a list of around 12 things that were wrong with the hotel/room, including:
- no breakfast available in hotel
- dust around television
- lino bubbling on floor of lift
- cracked top of kettle

Need I go on? Seriously, if I could find out the proprietors/owners of this dump, I would make sure never to stay at any hotels they own/run.

For once, I was disappointed with Skoosh - and its reviews.

This hotel was normal. The location was exceptional. It is just a few minutes walk from the airport shuttle bus stop and the heart of the city lies right there. I was disappointed that the man at the desk had to finish his personal phone call before helping me (for example, I waited about four-five minutes while he talked on the phone which was not a business call). He also was not helpful in terms of helping me find a city map, telling me that the key card has to be recharged each day, or letting me know that the phone in the room does not work. The water was also scalding hot in the sink and in the shower. Otherwise, it was your average hotel with an awesome location.

This hotel was in a great location. The room was very clean, bathroom updated and shower hot. It was a good value for the money and my stay was very nice. I would highly recommend this hotel for yor stay.

I would sertenly book this Hotel again if it is granted to me to go again on a break to Edinburgh.
Going out of the hotel you step directly into the centre of the new town. Princes street is only a few steps away.
I was impressed by the room I got as a single traveller. I even had my own bathroom! Every day the room was cleaned and fresh towels were provided. Here there is the only minor point wich is on the acount of former gasts. There where tar stains on the ceiling of the bathroom as a result of their smoking in the bathroom.
Positively I have to mension the quitness of the hotel. Not a sound from other visitors in the hotel. The streetnoises were acceptable.
The Hanover Hotel certenly was beyond expectation and worth every penny.
