Review Macdonald Holyrood Hotel

Best hotel in Edinburgh

 5/5

Superb experience for three days. Large, American style rooms, quiet location (no street noise at all), efficient and helpful staff, excellent breakfasts, fine spa. We have stayed at five star hotels in Edinburgh which were not as good as this four star. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Bearing in mind the cost & executive status of the holyrood, i found it did not live up to its previous reviews.
The staff mixed the rooms up twice, first by putting us in a twin room (when we requested a double), then putting us in a room which someone was already in! The third room had no heating in & the forth had items & bits missing from the room.
Most of the staff were helpful to resolve our issues and give advice about the city, whilst some were ignorant.
Good porridge, rubbish fry-up!
The parking costs £20 as well!

I don't think i'll be staying there again.

macdonalds holyrood hotel

I have just returned from a long weekend break spent at the macdonalds holyrood hotel with my mom and two sisters. From the moment we stepped out of the taxi we could not fault the staff. We were greeted by the concierge who took care of our cases while we checked in and then showed us to our rooms. On the way he pointed out the hotel restaurant and bar area and gave us information on breakfast times. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The hotel was located just off the bottom of the royal mile, a taxi in to the heart of the city cost between five and six pounds although there was a bus stop right outside the hotel.I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel as it was of a high standard and good value for money.

Very good hotel, only problem being breakfast on weekend mornings. We had to wait for a table for quite a while and then even longer before our cooked breakfast order was taken. We had the same problem when we stayed here two years ago, so nothing has changed since then.

Overall a very good hotel with very helpful and friendly staff, will stay again when in Edinburgh.

This hotel has exceptional standards. The moment i arrived at the entrance to the hotel I was given help with my luggage and a porter waited for me to check in before taking the bags to my room. The staff are very helpfull and are informative on facilities available(Gym,Pool,Beauty Spa,Internet,Historical sites and places of interest) The hotel was very clean, the food was exquisite and I was made to feel very welcome. I stayed in the hotel for four days and found it a short walk to the royal mile and princess street. The surrounding area is beautiful and the hotel is close to Arthurs seat, well worth a walk to the top if you have the time. I was very impressed. I have never stayed at a Macdonald Hotel before and will definately return to The Holyrood. A big thankyou to the staff who made my stay in Edinburgh an enjoyable one and thanks to Skoosh for a great deal. Five Stars * * * * *

Excellent hotel. Room was modern, clean and of a good size for a city centre hotel. Swimming pool, sauna and steam room were a great way to relax. Breakfast was fantastic - don't miss it. Staff were polite and efficient.

My impressions were not so much the property, although very nice, but of the care, helpfulness and attention of the staff, particularly reception and concierge. I reckon it was good value for money and would recommend to others.

Would definately recommend this hotel - standard of hotel was exceptional, friendly staff, great food & good sized rooms. Its ideally located just off the Royal Mile & only a short walk from the castle. Would definately go back & have already recommended it to family & friends

Hard to see hotel as you drive up to it. Nice area. Lobby and reception very nice. Very helpful folks. Rooms and service great. Beautiful buffet breakfast. Only negatives were a fire alarm at 4:30 a.m. caused by a stupid guest smoking in hall, and the 15 pounds per day to park car.
