Relaxing weekend at Emerald Lake

 5/5

Review by: , Calgary, Canada

The lodge was perfect for a relaxing, romantic weekend away. My wife and I loved the fine dining, particularly relaxing in front of the fireplace of the Kicking Horse Lounge. The view of the lake from our private patio was breathtaking. The staff were all exceptional and really went the extra mile with a huge smile on their faces all the time. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a getaway from the rush of modern life.

The heater for the outdoor hot tup was broken, so the water was luke warm, and some of the menu items are a little hit and miss, but the scenery and fireplaces more than made up for it. The historic main lodger is amazing and and there's plenty of things to do in the summer or the winter if you like to be active or just relax.

Still beautiful, tranquil and peaceful. The trails are dry and the lake is ready for you to explore by canoe. The service is still youthful friendly. They are eager to help. The food is still excellent. The firewood is super dry this year. And they are just about finished installing a very large hot tub. Make this your home base and visit the interesting town of Field. Check out The Siding resturant or walk across the street to the Truffle Pig for a drink and a bite to eat. The Velvet Antler pottery place is just down the street and it is amazing. On your way to Lake Louise, stop by the Cathedral Resort and walk the grounds. It is beautiful. And just up the road is Taka Falls. Enjoy.

4th stay. Need I say more? If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, this is one of the best places on Earth. Come here for the great outdoors, the ambiance, the zen-like qualities, the superb food, the cozy accommodations, the fireplace (bring a lighter, the wood is usually a bit wet), the huge snooker table on the second floor of the main lodge and the outdoor hot tub!! It is all here!

Let's face it, you could stay in a small tent or rustic cabin with no hot water and still be moved by the stunningly majestic setting that is Emerald Lake. It is, without question, a very special place. If it is not on your Top-100-Places-To-Go-Before-You Go List, pencil it in now. The Emerald Lake Lodge property consists of the historic lodge, club house which holds the dry sauna and very large outdoor hottub, and Cilantro on the Lake, a place to have a drink or a bite to eat. Additionally, there are 24 cabin units (most with good size balconies and incredible views), nicely appointed with working fireplaces with an endless supply of wood. Everything works, service is attentive, the food is excellent and very expensive (bring your own food and wine if you wish to stretch your dollar). Go hiking, skiing, canoeing!
Enjoy!

Emerald Lake Lodge lacking

After wanting to go to this Canada icon for years, we finally did. What a disappointment. The location is spectacular indeed - no doubt about it. But the lodge is resting on its historical laurels and has lost the details that justify the high cost and the claim of a quality resort. The walls are paper thin and thus the noise pervasive, the carpet was dirty, the interior walls were scuffed and shabby, and when we requested non-down pillows due to an allergy, we returned to find the old pillow cases wadded up and left in a pile on the bed for us to reuse (???) on the new pillows. It's a shame that the "rustic" ruse is being used to cover, quite simply, mediocre service in a poorly maintained facility. Visit here for the day, but stay at Lake Louise.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: This was my second stay at the Emerald Lake Lodge. The snow has arrived and the area is even more beautiful. The service is youthful and friendly, the food is satisfying to say the least and the accommodations are very comfortable and pleasing. This is a tranquil and relaxed environment. If you are looking for bells and whistles, try Las Vegas. Here you will find an attractive and functional lodge, a very interesting ski/snowshoe/boat rental 'cabin' with helpful staff within a very short walking distance from the main lodge, fine dining, a very lovely and large outdoor hottub and indoor sauna - above all, a quiet and relaxed atmosphere (read: avoid peak summer) . This is what people come here for - to relax - and, of course, the view - it is spectacular. The lodge focuses mainly on couples. It is clear this is not a place, in general, for children and teenagers. Anniversaries, romantic getaways, a small wedding perhaps, writers and artists - but not children. Yes, stil on my Top 25 Must-Go-Before-You-Go List.
