I have stayed in many hotels in Italy that "claim" to be 4 star hotels but their quality is not even comparable to 3 star hotels in the US. However, this hotel I think stands to its standards. Very clean, very conveniently located. The personnel is extremely helpful, pleasant and they speak well English (again in contrast to other Italian hotels I have visited). In general I had a very pleasant stay. I highly recommend it. The only comment I may have is that I think the breakfast, although it is enough, it could have been a little richer.

If you are looking for decent-sized, well-appointed rooms with helpful staff, I'd recommend the Athenaum. It fronts on the Via Cavour, which runs down to the Duomo, so rooms at the front of the building can be noisy. After groaning to 5am traffic noises on our first morning, we asked to move. Staff did so promptly. Our new room, while smaller, was quiet and comfortable. We had a three-day bed and breakfast deal with one free night, and we found the breakfast to be the best that we'd had on our two-week road trip across Tuscany (but skip the lurid pink orange juice).We liked the location - 10 minute walk to the heart of the historical district - Michelangelo's David to the left, McDonald's to the right, restaurants all round. Our stay at the Athenaum averaged 86 euro/night (good), but parking was 25 euro (bad). I'd go back.
