As of July 2011 Florence is introducing a new city tax to be paid by the guest to the hotel directly prior to their departure. This will be charged up to a maximum of 10 days, per person per day (excluding children under 10 years old). The tax rate ranges from € 1.00 per day for a 1 star hotel to € 5.00 per day for 5 star hotels.

Loved the Porta Faenza

This is a great little hotel in a perfect place in Florence. The rooms are tastefully done, clean and very quiet. The staff were more than helpful, breakfast fine and price very reasonable. Would recommend to anyone....no need to spend a lot of money on a hotel when the Porta Faenza is there for your pleasure.

Very nice hotel

The room was spacious an comfortable (just like pictures). There were ample blankets and pillows, and the ac worked great. The bathroom is a good size and the towels were big and fluffy. The only negatives were you have to be careful in the shower or water will leak out - and if possible request a room off the street. It can be a little noisy as people walk bak and forth and the trash truck comes by every morning. It wasn't enough to bother us, and I kind of liked looking out the window at the business. However if you prefer absolute quiet then a room in back woud be better. The breakfast is awesome! Now keep in mind that this is Europe so don't be expecting eggs, bacon or anything like that...but the buffet had coffee/tea, cereal/granola/yogurt/ham/cheese/toast...there were packaged muffins, fruit, croissants, etc. best breakfast we experienced.

Walking distance from Train station

This tiny inn is a 5min walk away from the main train station (Santa Maria Novella) - do not be fooled into taking a cab like we were - no problem even with a big suitcase. Not only near the train station, but near everything else as well, we were perfectly satisfied with Porta Faenza. Breakfast included (no eggs though). Free internet, though the connection was kind of slow.

The Porta Faenza was an excellent choice. It was clean, comfortable and the staff has helpful and pleasant

Hotel Porta Faenza

This was a very nice hotel in a very convenient location at a very good price (at least throught skoosh). Our room was BIG but dark. The room itself had some really nice amenities (for example, the light in the bathroom wouldn't get bright when you flicked the switch, but would when you were in there for a couple minutes - which is nice on the eyes in the middle of the night). The concierge was very helpful, the breakfast bar was good (although have them make you a cappuccino, the coffee was not up to snuff). Free internet in the lobby, inexpensive minibar. All in all, a lovely stay.
