Great location, near main bus and train station and easy walking distance but far enough to be away from the noise and bustle. No traffic noise, faintly heard the underground train but not enough to bother about. All smokers on one floor so no smell on our floor - hooray! Very clean and tidy. Staff friendly and helpful. Would stay there again. If you go - do try the jacuzzi and sauna if only for the view!

The room was clean and bed was big enough. I expected to have a bath tub and an air-conditioner in every room for 4 star hotel, but none of both were in my single room. As a hotel service, I had very big suitcase but no baggage help to the room at check-in. I would not stay this hotel again.

Six of us stayed at the Best Western St. Raphael. We did not book the breakfast and that was not a problem. Those who we saw going in for breakfast appeared happy coming out. Sadly there was no coffee or tea making facility in the room, but you could order a tray of tea or coffee for your room if you wished. The Hotel had a buffet menu nightly from monday to friday. At a special discount for guests and had we stayed there for longer, we would have taken advantage of this offer.
We arrived on friday 30th December. Our rooms were clean, acceptable, with fridge and reasonably priced items inside. Space within the rooms was variable, our room had double bed, with a bathroom with shower and toilet and hairdying facilities within. Our friends had rooms with double beds, a sink within the bedroom and a bathroom with toilet and shower within. They described the advantage of being able to wash your feet at the same time as using the toilet as interesting. All rooms had a `safe` facility for holding items which you did not wish to take with you daily.
I made the mistake of putting my suitcase on the bed before hanging my clothing up, which left nasty black wheel marks on the bedding. The following day my bedding was changed for clean. Each night we had a `gift` on our pillows, ranging from a sweet to chocolates, and on New Year, we had the additional treat of an aspirin for any headache on the following day.
Having stayed in other Hamburg hotels previously, the Best Western St. Raphael, offers a good site for accessing the Hauptbahnhof, only a very short walk away. Linking to all of the important and interesting Hamburg sites. St. Michael, Fischmarkt, Reeperbahn, Planten Und Blumen, Hagenbeck, Heiligengeistfeld in August and December,(for the fair). Monckeburgestrasse and the GanzeMarkt, for all the exciting shopping, the Civic Building (Rathaus) with the beautiful parliamentary halls and central water feature. (Sadly we were out of season for the water features at Planten Und Blumen)
In terms of value for money, cleanliness, helpfulness or disceteness, we would happily book the Best Western, St. Raphael again, and I believe that every person who was `bopping` in the Hotel on New Year`s Eve would go there again, but we were at the Landungsbrucken enjoying the fireworks and ships sirens, so we missed the entertainment at the Hotel.
If you wish clean, discrete, helpful services, without pressures to use hotel facilities, such a jaccuzi, sauna, gymnasium, breakfast, evening meals facitilities then the Hotel St. Raphael is for you. If you wish to be pampered by the above facilities then the Hotel St. Raphael is also for you.
We have no problems in recommending this Hotel for your visit to Hamburg. Whatever your special wishes. We felt very comfortable with them.

Very good location near train and bus stations and within a short walk of shops, bars and restaurants. Spa area very good. Breakfasts delicious and excellent value. Would definately reccomend it to others. Would stay there again.

Very clean, central efficient helpful staff though Bar service could be better very slow. A ramp next to hotel door steps would be helpful for wheeling large pieces of luggage in and out.
There could be more variety and choice of evening meals Breakfast excellent. would definately recommend hotel to friends.

Good value! Room small but modern with most amenities one would want. Staff English-language friendly and responsive. Location is short walk to main station but removed enough to be quieter and still close to restaurants, cinemas, etc.. Of two free Internet access consoles only one was available and not all email providers could be accessed.
