This hotel is a good choice for the individual traveller due to the traditional ambiance of the hotel and its perfect central location. The hotel enjoys an excellent location, situated on the square opposite the central railway station, surrounded by shops and restaurants in the heart of Helsinki. A great base from which to discover the city. The hotel is, by Helsinki standards, a historic building and is hailed as the city's oldest hotel. A traditional style grey building which is extremely attractive. The small lobby is decorated in marble and dark wood and is very traditional in style. The rooms are all a different size and shape due to the traditional style of the hotel. They are all in very good condition, furnished to the same standard combining traditional style with modern facilities. The modern bathrooms are also in very good condition.

Old-style European hotel, nicely updated

The location was exactly what I needed-- arriving in Helsinki by train, leaving by air the next day and the hotel was directly across the street from the train station and the Finnair express bus to the airport. The building was old and elegant, with huge high celings and massive chandeliers in the dining room (where I enjoyed the excellent free breakfast buffet). The room was well-decorated, spacious, and comfortable. Bathroom excellent, with a nice deep tub, heated floor. One feature that I loved but some people might hate is that the room looked directly at the busy train station area and was probably a bit noisy, although I didn't notice. I enjoyed being able to look out at all the activity at all hours. The huge door-size windows opened all the way so it would be possible, although not safe, to step out onto the ledge.

Great location, great breakfast

It was very convenient, across from the train station, and also within walking distance to many restaurants, boutique shopping, the market square, etc. Anywhere else you want to visit, it's very convenient to catch the bus, trolley, train, whatever, right across the street. We took a bus to the airport for ~ 3 euro and 30 min, direct route to the airport. The hotel was nice and clean, charming old building. Bathroom was small, but fine. Breakfast was included, food was very nice, coffee was excellent, in a great old ballroom. Staff were generally helpful. We got a good rate on Skoosh for this hotel, it was much more expensive on other sites.

Everything comes up roses at the Seurahuone!

We stayed one night. Arrived by overnight train at 0900 and found the hotel right across the street from the train station. Best of all, our rooms were ready and were comfortable and spacious. Invited to dig into the breakfast buffet although we hadn't stayed the previous night. Buffet was first-rate; we gorged. Reception good in giving directions, obtaining taxis, recommending restaurants, etc. Everyone speaks English. Hotel right in the central business district, close to lots of attraction including three museums we wanted to see and the harbor. Overall quality, very high; price very reasonable. You bet we were impressed.
