The structure is very nice; however, their food and food services are a disappointment.
Don't plan on eating breakfast in your room--the cost for overcooked eggs and undercooked hashbrowns is outrageous! On a positive note there was no charges for the little ants that run free allover the room.

I would consider Oahu to be "middle america paradise." It's the Universal Studios of Hawaii. Very crowded, big city traffic, tiny beaches but after a few days you get used to it and just enjoy the beach. I would recommend another island or the Caribbean or the like but if you have to go to Oahu for a wedding or whatever, the RH is a good choice.

The hotel service and the exterior is wonderful. The rooms were large but needed some modern updating. The pool is a bit small and there was no jacuzzi.

We have been to Honolulu at least 4 times but this is the first time we stayed in Royal Hawaiian. I must say we are really impressed overall. Yes, the hotel room is a little old, not as spacious as similarly priced hotels, but you can't beat the location and ease of access to beach as well as all the other amenities such as beach chairs, umbrellas and good service.
Other than a little old, the room is actually quite comfy. The bathroom is small but adequate for a couple. The TV is too small, but we didn't watch much at all. Our room faced the garden which is the preferred to us and cheaper. The ceiling is very high, maybe up to 14 feet! The refrig is a little old and noisy, but we turned it off during night. The toiletries are great!
We were impressed with the service. The bellmen did their job, and we were warmly received. My wife received a lei upon arrival, and I got something similar, like a necklace but made of nuts I guess. Cold towels were provided for our relief at the counter. We had similar cold towel service during the day at the pool side as well. We ended up spending 90% of our daytime on the beach or pool side, and I must say we were truly happy and satisfied.
By the way, per suggestion from other reviewers, we didn't dine at the restaurant as we've heard it is very expensive. We ended up finding the Cheesecake Factory much to our liking next door.
