Reviews Of Hotel Residencial Florescente, Lisbon,

Review by: Geoveo, Rugby, United Kingdom

Stayed: Nov 2007

We stayed here in November 2007. We booked this hotel on spec, thinking it sounded reasonable. We were especially attracted to it as Skooch was offering a very good deal (3 nights for the price of 2).

We were delighted with all aspects. Its location is extremely good for both walking and catching city transport, it's just minutes walk from the bus and tram terminal in Praca Da Figueira. To reach it from the airport is an easy 3 Euro ride on the 91 city link bus, get off at Restauradores and cross over the square, go down the side road by the Hard Rock Cafe and turn right, it's on the right next door to the theatre; less than two minutes from the bus stop.
The staff that we encountered were pleasant and helpful, enduring our attempts at speaking Portuguese, but they spoke good English.

The hotel seems to have had a recent update, all the public areas are clean and bright, the room we had (408) was also clean and well furnished with two comfortable beds and a TV and AC. It has a large bright bathroom with bath/shower, plenty of towels even a hair-dryer, everything you'd need. We asked for a quiet room, 408 is on the back with no view but it was extremely quiet all night. Those on the front overlook the pedestrianised street where you can watch the world go by but it's not a particularly interesting part of the street and the rooms do suffer from the noise of early morning rubbish/bottle collections as well as the "normal" city street sounds.

If you carry a laptop there is FREE wifi connection, if not there is a computer in the public lounge that you can use, also free.
The breakfast, which was included, was good; limited in items but not in quality or quantity, you can fill up with as much as you can eat of fresh bread rolls, meat/cheese, jam, cereal, fruit juice and good tea and coffee.

All in all a good well priced hotel (We'd even have been happy to pay for every night), with a practical location, highly recommended.

I stayed at the Florescente for a week. I got 3 nights for the price of 2 through Skoosh and thought it was a terrific bargain. I'm a budget traveler, so though the hotel was not posh or atmospheric it more than satisfied my expectations.

My room and furniture were all very clean and in excellent condition, the bed was comfortable, the lamps and television worked, I had plenty of towels, and I never ran out of hot water. Hey, that's enough for me at the price I was paying! My room overlooked the courtyard, and it was quiet (except when other guests were loud in the halls, but that can happen almost anywhere). Breakfast was pretty uninspiring, but at least there were fresh rolls.

The location was excellent--convenient both for walking and for public transit. I suppose the street could get pretty crowded and loud during high season, but it was fine in November.

I'd definitely stay here again.

This hotel is in a great location, allowing you to walk out the door into Lisbon's "eating lane" and stroll down through Praca Figuero all the way down to Praca de Comercial and the river. While my single room was a little bit small for maneuvering in, it was spotlessly cleaned each day and was pretty quiet. The charge for using the internet is not nearly as cheap as local internet cafes, however. It was nice to see that there was an elevator when I arrived also, so I didn't have to lug my suitcase up five flights of stairs. The breakfast is standard breads, jams, butter, meats, chese, yogurt, cereal, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, but the room is busy and social, and the staff clean tables as fast as you can pick one out to sit at. I'd definitely recommend staying here. While the hotel doesn't offer posh perks or pamper your every need, it's cheap, clean, and you can't beat the location.

I paid less than 50 Euros a night, including breakfast for a single during the first week of October based on a 4-day minimum stay and no refund if I canceled. The hotel is perfectly located on The Eating Street and 50m from the metro (Restraudores), the staff is very helpful, mattress, hot water both excellent, spotlessly clean, but bed linen a bit thin (although this is not a problem in summer or autumn). Breakfast is better than OK (rolls, toast, cold cuts, cheese, cereal, yogurt, orange and pineapple juice, milk, coffee). Internet is 1 Euro per 10 minutes, but PT Telecom is 100m away (2 Euros/hour, open ītil midnight).

Very clean room. Great location. Lots of restaurants and public transport nearby so getting to the sights and airport was a doddle.

Not a lot of variety for breakfast but acceptable for the price paid.

Would definiitely stay here again if in Lisbon.

This hotel is great value for money. I arrived in Lisbon early and this hotel gave me an early check-in at 9:30am which I greatly appreciated. The hotel and rooms were clean, the staff was nice, and the breakfast was larger than I was expecting. You can do far worse in Lisbon.

Hotel is conveniently located along La Rambla, near the subway and tourist "hop-on-hop-off" buses. Room was clean and hotel staff excellent.

The hotel was very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic and is principally what makes this hotel very good value for money.

I would recommend it to anyone who wanted a good value hotel in a great location, who isn't bothered about having a lot of extraneous amenities. For a place to sleep while spending the day looking round the city of Lisbon, you would be hard pressed to do better.

The location is excellent for touring Lisbon. You are within walking distance to many attractions. Also, many good restaurants are literally at your doorstep. We found the staff to be pleasant and efficient. The room was small and the breakfast a bit boring--the same everyday. We asked for a quiet room and got something on the 5th floor towards the back. Although there was no view, it was quiet. Even though the street has been turned into a pedestrian zone, there are lots of people day and night. Also, there is a theater/concert hall directly in front of the hotel, which attracts local youths. This all adds to the festive mood in the area, but it is something to keep in mind, if you have a hard time sleeping. We were pleased with the choice of hotel and would recommend it to the "not too fussy" traveler--someone looking for a clean room in a good location.
