Alexandra Hotel London Reviews

Review by: Shane, Colorado Springs, United States

Customer Rating:

A nice hotel in a converted set of apartments. The staff were all very helpful and courteous. Our rooms were on the top floor in a very small, narrow room with a very compact bathroom. Everything was nice and clean, if a bit cramped. Continental breakfast included two types of cold-cut meats, slice cheese, cereal, yogurt, orange juice, and coffee.

I feel we received great value for our money, and I would certainly stay there again. The hotel is very near two lines on the underground, and was wonderfully convenient.

The initial impression is quite good. The hotel is in a nice neighborhood and the building is in generally good repair. The room was clean and generally comfortable. The lack of a lift to the level of the room posed some difficulty and the ensuite bath was tiny.

The room was clean but as a single it was small. However I was there only to sleep. The staff was friendly and the hotel was close to the Paddington tube and train station. It was a couple of blocks from Hyde Park. I would stay again.

When booking I was given to believe our room would be accessed by a lift & have a tub in the bath. This was not true in either case. We had to climb 3 flights of stairs & the bathroom was tiny with a shower only. We did not think it was good value for the money. Our expectations were not met. I would not reccomend this hotel to others. The only redeeming feature was that the room was clean.

Customer Rating:

Very good location and good value compared to alot of other hotels at 210 euro for 3 nights (double room). The lobby was quite nice, the 76 steps up to our bedroom less so. The "elevator" was worrysome and so we didn't use it after the first time. The room was one of the architectual marvels of the modern world. How a floor so slanted could be part of a free standing structure would probably only be understood by the builder of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The room was cramped/cosy, depending on your point of view... it was adequate though, as we only spent a few hours there over the weekend. The walls are quite thin - next door had one of those "when drivers go crazy" cop shows on until about 2am and I woke up thinking I was on the run. The bathroom was okay but the shower had freezing cold water twice out of the three times we tried it. The Continental breakfast wasn't good. I don't know what people eat on the "Continent", but if cereal and toast is it then you Continentals are really missing out. We had to wait for a seat for 5 or 10 minutes, the place was packed. The staff at breakfast weren't at all helpful, mostly responding to our requests with grunts. The table next to us asked for more milk and the girl gave them the look of a person who'd just found a pubic hair in her coleslaw. Reception staff were pretty friendly, and check-in was hassle-free which was especially good since we arrived at 1am. All in all, given the price, I'd probably stay here again.
