This Grade II listed building was constructed in 1870. The grand façade of this former textile warehouse has remained largely unchanged although the building was converted into a hotel in 1982. Due to the nature of the warehouse design, the rooms created are spacious and filled with light from the large windows that surround each floor level. In addition to a lobby area with 24-hour reception and check-out services and lift access, facilities available to guests at this 85-room city hotel include a bar, restaurant, conference facilities and room and laundry services. This hotel is located on the corner of Portland Street and Princess Street in the heart of Manchester city centre, close to the Cultural Quarter. The bus station is 5 minutes' walk from the hotel and Piccadilly Rail Station is a 10-min walk away. Restaurants, bars and pubs are all within 800 m of the hotel. Manchester Airport is 14 km from the establishment. Guests are invited to enjoy a superb dining experience at Brasserie on Portland Street. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit A556 (Manchester). Go past Mere Platt Farm. Turn right at first roundabout (M56). Follow signs for Manchester. Go under Hulme Archway to the roundabout. Take the 2nd left onto Medlock Street. Turn right at the 2nd traffic lights at G-Mex. Go through the traffic lights at McDonalds, onto Portland Street. The hotel is on the right-hand side, on the corner of Princess Street.

Fantastic hotel

We spent 4 nights at Princess On Portland. The hotel is very well located, near everything (city center, China Town, Gay village, university). Also, the staff is very professional and nice. The hotel is being refurnished and restored and we stayed in a room already upgraded. The rooms are big, very clean and the beds so comfy. The breakfast includes very fresh bread and fruit, as well as full English breakfast and toasts prepared just for you. The best hotel I have ever stayed in in England. definitely good value for money. I would recommend it.

Princess on Portland

I would recommend it. They are currently refurbishing, so there was a lot going on. The new room was beautiful and trendy, but the shower wasn't giving hot water. VERY cold showers. They tried to fix it but could not. I was moved to a better room where the water was nice and warm. The A/C was new but not hooked up yet, but they did bring me a fan. They were VERY VERY service oriented and EXTREMELY accomidating and helpful. The new hotel is wonderful. I would recommend it to anyone, and the location was excellent.

Good value in Manchester

Yes; very central and conveneient, the staff were very friendly and helpful.The room we were given was on the first floor and very noisy, but they moved us to one on the first floor when I asked if they had an alternative. and that was much better.The room was spacious, clean with a comfortable bed,and the bathroom well appointed.The decor is old, and they are doing major renovations to the building. It is on a busy junction so a lot of traffic noise outside.

Ok as somewhere to sleep, but not a romantic getaway!

We found the hotel to be clean and tidy, however the bedroom (which was an executive) was fairly tired. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. We were dissapointed that the gym and pool facilities were not actually on site and also attracted a fee. We were one of the first up for breakfast, and unfotunately it had been sat on the not so hot plate for some time so most of it was cool or warm rather than hot! All in all, it didn't exactly live up to its write up and we were disappointed
