This modern 12-storey city hotel offers 119 spacious guest rooms with African-influenced décor, which offer great views of Maputo Bay or the city. Facilities include an entrance hall with 24-hour reception, a currency exchange facility, a cloakroom, lift access, a hairdresser, 2 restaurants and 2 bars, 24-hour room service, a business centre, Internet access with a WLAN access point, 3 conference rooms and a shopping centre offering a wide range of shops. Parking is provided for those arriving by car. The hotel is situated in the centre of Maputo, opposite the cathedral and 10 minutes away from the main points of interest in the city, such as the historic railway station, the market, the fort and the main business district. It is just 5 km (15 minutes) from the international airport. There is a gym, a sauna and an outdoor swimming pool with children's paddling section on the hotel grounds. Guests can also relax on the sun terrace, where there is a poolside snack bar as well as sun loungers and parasols. Sports enthusiasts can play a game of tennis or golf or go motor boating, and those seeking some relaxation time can treat themselves to a professional massage. There is a programme of entertainment organised for guests of all ages. Coming from South Africa, guests will be on the N1 highway. On this highway there will be indication along the way at the roadside, as to how many more kilometres there are to Maputo City. On reaching the Resano Garcia Boarder gate you cross the 2 border gates. After leaving the border guests will find themselves on the Estrada Nacional motorway. At the tollgate keep driving straight ahead until reaching a point from which the small city of Matola is visible. A group of robots will come into view, as well as a small suburban road leading off to the left-hand side. Take this turn-off. This motorway is a continuation of Estrada Nacional N1. Keep driving straight ahead on the motorway, pass another 2 tollgates and keep driving. On eventually reaching a roundabout take the third exit. This should take you onto Av. Organização das Nações Unidas.

I would not recommend this hotel to people expecting a 4 star hotel. The hotel is neglected and poorly maintained. The bed had coil springs sticking out of it. No, never ever again!!!

An Interesting Experience

Once inside the hotel there is little to complain about except the language barrier (Portuguese - English) and (at the time) broken elevator. We would also have liked some basic info about the room on arrival, especially since the electricity, although highly innovative, is a bit tricky. Hotel service was good from the bell boy to reception to the restaurant offering to serve dinner by the pool. The hotel building itself is beautifully decorated and maintained inside giving one that much anticipated holiday feel once you enter. Driving to the hotel in Maputo traffic is a nightmare. Parking at the hotel is less than ideal with no under cover secure parking (as far as we could find), although we found parking outside to be quite safe as 24-hour security is on duty. The area surrounding the hotel (except for the church - west) is very run down & unsightly.

I enjoyed my stay at Pestana hÃ´tel. I thank a lot all personal staff I met; efficiency professionnalism are the words to use. reactivity to solve some inconvenience immedialy on request is the proof of service of quality. I will come again.
