Tres Cruces Hotel

We would recommend this hotel for the budget conscious. We have stayed there a few times & find the staff helpful and the hotel clean, comfortable, fairly quiet, with a good breakfast. The location is very good, especially if you are without a car. It´s a few minutes from Tres Cruces Mall & Bus Station (which services the whole of Uruguay). Also buses to all areas of the city run close by. We always feel rested after our long trip from Canada.

Cala Di Volpe Boutique Hotel

Cala Di Volpe Boutique Hotel
CdV: Nice rooms, excellent view, great location!

Review by: oregoncheryl

Stayed: May 2009

My husband and I stayed at Cala di Volpe on our wedding night and it was fantastic! The rooms were clean and nicely decorated, comfortable bed and the food we were served was excellent.

I got ready for my wedding in the room, the bridal package included early check-in and late check-out the next day, and upon our return from our wedding reception they had the room tidied again, plus flowers and champagne waiting for us!

The view of the Rio de la Plata from the hotel is lovely, and the location is conveniently central, right on the Rambla (take a walk or a jog on the beach!) and easy access to downtown (about 10-15 minutes away) -- or take one of the many city buses if you're adventurous and don't have time constraints. I'm not sure why the other reviewer had such a problem, but we just loved our stay and are going back again soon!

Oxford Hotel

Oxford Hotel Recommendation

Review by: Doug (Virginia) , Kinsale, United States

Stayed: Feb 2009

My 2 day stay at the Oxford was very pleasant. I had upgraded to a queen bed and the hotel put me in the top floor in a room with a balcony (river view over the roof tops), all at a reasonable price. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially when I needed assistance to deal with a street robbery (don´t stray too far away from the tourist areas like I did). The hotel earned its 4-star rating.

Four Points by Sheraton Montevideo Hotel

Four Points by Sheraton Montevideo Hotel
Nice and clean hotel

Review by: Ellie , san jose, United States

Stayed: Nov 2008

It was a nice experience. Friendly staff. Clean hotel. Great location.

The gym, sauna, and the pool (indoors pool) need much renovation. I think the equipment was from the 80s. And I don't think it was worth the extra $7 they required for using the facilities. The breakfast (which not always offered with the room rate) was nothing to write home about either.

In a town where manicures are $2.50 and city tours: $18, asking for $130-175 for a hotel room was a bit much. Asking for extra fee to use the outdated fitness was way too much. Also, using the internet at a cybercafe will cost you .50 cents for an hour, in this hotel, it's $8/hour.

Just some minor items that should be noted.

Plaza Fuerte Hotel

Plaza Fuerte Hotel
A good choice for "short" travellers

Review by: Eleonora , Thessaloniki, Greece

Stayed: Nov 2009

Plaza Fuerte Hotel is situated in a very central point, within walking distance from most sightseings, so it is very convenient for people who want to visit the old city or the city centre. The staff is very helpful, the rooms are very clean and the breakfast is offerred in a pleasant room. I would recommend it for those that visit Montevideo for a few days.
