An excellent hotel but not exactly a five star

I certainly had a enjoyable time staying at the Le Meridien; however comparing with the Sofitel next door or Kempinski, this hotel cannot be a five star hotel. I would give it 4 stars. The service was very good and the staff were particularly friendly and accommodating. The breakfast is excellent by any standard. The only two issues I have is that the internet at the rate of 21 Euros per day is too expensive. You would think that at the rate you pay to stay at the hotel, they would give you the internet free of charge or at least not that high. The other issue is that the phone rate from the hotel room is ridiculously high. It starts at over 1 Euros per minute and goes up to over 10 Euros. It's a highway robbery.

Le Meridian Rocks

Great hotel, very swanky and upscale. Awesome location near Marienplatz. The train station is literally across the street, so getting in and out of town either by Eurorail or thru the airport is a breeze. Very friendly staff who speak fluent English. Great place to stay if you're looking for an upscale hotel experience in the heart of Munich.

Overall, our stay at the Meridien was very good. The hotel is close to the train station, which is what we needed. If you prefer something in the heart of town, the Meridien is a solid 15 minute walk to Marienplatz. However, the HBf has every train imaginable in the city, so transportation is plentiful. The internet was extremely expensive - 21 Euros for 24 hours, and the gym was really terrible. 2 treadmills, one very old, a bike and a few weights...there was a nice pool, though, so bring a swimsuit instead of your running shoes if you'd like to work out. The breakfast, however, was terrific, with extensive hot and cold buffets; the bed firm and comfortable, the shower great. The staff was very accommodating - overall, would highly recommend if you are willing to take public transportation.

I would recommend it to others. I wouldn't describe it as overally MPRESSIVE!, but I would stay there again. It has a beautiful lobby and the area were breakfast is served is very cozy. The actually breakfast is simple, but nice. The rooms were nicely decorated and I felt very comfortable. The location was EXCELLENT - central station is literally across the street! I went for the Christmas markets and everything I wanted to see was in walking distance. The service was friendly as well.
