Review Amsterdam Court Hotel

Think small

 2/5

Review by: , North Wales, United States

This was a good hotel for it's proximity to the theaters, the subway and a good Iriish Pub next door with moderate prices and nightly entertainment. The room was small (think very small) and well worn. The window airconditioner ran continuously but cooled the room adequately. I would be careful with this hotel in the winter because there is a single radiator that looks like it is on its last leg and not capable of heating the room. The lighting in the bathroom was excellent, while the lighting in the bedroom was very poor and not suitable for comfortable newspaper reading. The 17 inch TV screen was a bit small and there are no premium channels included, but who goes to New York to watch TV. Also I paid for occupancy tax of $3.50 per night. Hotel said that Skoosh did not reimburse them for occupancy tax. Will not return.

I would recommend the Amsterdam Court purely for its location. It is right off Broadway and across the street from the theater where Wicked is playing. Our room was small, and they were remodeling the room across the hall - -lots of noise and smells. Our TV was ancient and 1 elevator did not work, but the front desk staff was friendly and there was a bathtub, which is difficult to find in NYC.

Too small...

Clean, very polite staff in reception (they offered to change us a room as the first one was too small).
Location was excellent.
On the other side, the room (even the second one), was too small, and overall for the services provided the price was over rated...
Do not think i will choose it again, and rather find for an alternative.

We highly recommend this hotel. The room itself, is small, but the location is perfect, and I've stayed there twice-- both times it was the cheapest hotel in the Times Square area, by far. Staff was courteous, and it was great to be able to walk to Central Park, Times Square, the whole bit. Got such good rest in the bed that we were energized to walk down to Greenwich Village and back the next day.

I was appaled when the A/C in the room was broken and they initially were unresponsive. Until I pressed the issue, they were unwilling to make changes. Finally, at 11PM, they moved me to a sister property. I just don't think I should have to fight that hard for good service.

Great location... not such great service/room

I had just finished staying at the Ritz in Philly, so my expectations of a hotel might have been a little biased. The front desk gal at check in was not very bright/helpful, and the door man (and bag check person) was very cold and unfriendly. I'm not exactly sure what they have a doorman for because I don't think that any of them actually opened a door or welcomed us while we were there. Anyhow, our room was ICE COLD when we arrived because the window was left open (askew because it was broken) and there isn't a way to control the temperature in individual rooms. The queen bed caved to the center of the bed, so be sure you are sharing it with someone you want to be close to. Bathroom was big and clean for NYC. Room was clean. It was cheap for a reason though.

1ST ROOM WAS AWFUL. SMALL, DARK AND SMOKEY. WE ASKED TO CHANGE ROOMS AND THEY WERE VERY HAPPY TO MOVE US. THE NEW ROOM WAS AWESOME. SPACIOUS AND BRIGHT. NICE BED AND BATHROOM.

LOCATION WAS PERFECT ALSO. WE REALLY ENJOYED THE HOTEL AFTER OUR SWITCH TO OUR NEW ROOM.

Had a great stay at this hotel. Staff were friendly. Hotel room was small, but that is normal for boutique type hotels in NYC. I'd stay again.
