Reviews of Mansfield Hotel New York

Things we LOVED about this hotel: the staff (truly warm and super nice to my son - to an extreme degree- including the wait staff who all tried to help us put together a plane purchased at the perilously close ToysRUS), the beautiful library where you could hang out, read the paper and have a free coffee of your choice, the proximity to Times Square and everything near there, the truly wonderful ambiance of an old hotel with beautiful wooden floors and the lovely elevators. Things you might think twice about: the rooms are small (so what - the rooms are so well planned out you might not even notice, BUT, the thing you WILL notice is that the bathroom door will not close if you are (ahem) on the commode. REALLY. Which makes this place a second thought for folks with a significant other, unless the other is willingtostandintheahallway.But,onthewholewelovedit.

The price was good. The rooms (a standard) is small, but well-appointed (good bed, linens, and flat screen tv). Staff is very friendly. The air conditioner can make it as cold as you want. Fee wi-fi was a plus. Nice library room on main flloor and the attached M Bar was cozy. If you're going to spend a lot of time in the room, this may not be your spot. It's NYC...get out and see the city.

I've been staying at this hotel for 14 years (a couple of times each year) and it is a solid, dependable boutique hotel. Their penthouse suite is spectacular but also expensive. Their regular rooms are fine, if sometimes small (but not as small as in some NYC hotels).

I'm not given much space for comments here, so I will restrict them to my room itself. Simply, it was small and dark, with a window looking into a dank central building shaft. The dark hardwood floors and decor did nothing to brighten up the room. The narrow bathroom was again dark but serviceable, and not one you'd want to spend much time in. There was no central air conditioning, just one of those portable window air conditioners that is so loud that you're torn between living with the noise or living with the heat. And when it rains, as it did one night, those drops hitting the aircon as they came down the shaft made it sound like a kid beating on a toy drum right next to your bed. The bed itself was comfortable but took up most of the room. Clean modern decor but altogether forgettable.

I would definitely recommend this hotel especially if you are looking to stay in the Theatre/Time Square district. The service was extremely professional with the reception staff especially welcoming and helpful. The room was very clean although quite small and dark. I'm not sure if all the rooms are like this but it was due to the building next door located just a few yards from our only window in the room. Blocking any sunlight from entering the room.

I would definitely stay here again in the future as it was well worth the money. Just hope it doesn't rain every day on my next visit!
