Portland Square Hotel New York Reviews

Customer Rating:
The Portland Square Hotel had VERY small rooms. "2 x double beds" apparently means one (1) double bed in a room not much bigger than the bed itself. That said, the room was clean and included A/C, and the bed was comfortable. Also, the location was GREAT - less than 5 minutes from Times Square.

The common bathroom was not lighted. The light had blown, so I took a creepy shower in the dark.

For this price in Manhattan, it's a good value. The trade off is the room is tiny, you share the bathroom, a bit dreary, no views, and lots of traffic/construction noise.
On the other hand, you are steps from Times Square and the subway. It's clean enough and safe enough to meet basic needs.

no would not recommend it. the ambiance felt like a hostel, including the size and atmosphere of the room. curtains were disgusting and probably had not been washed in 50 years, which wouldn't be so bad if your head wasn't right underneath them. the sealing around the AC is terrible so the traffic noise below was extremely loud. the idea of a shared bathroom is fine for a hostel, not so nice for a hotel. the one positive is that the location was very convenient.
