Huge rooms, poorly maintained but excellent value - returning soon

Review by: ukgeorge

The room was absolutely huge for the price (£25 a night), you could have slept 4 people in it, as evidenced by the fact there were two extra single cots in the room, functioning as sofas! There was a full-sized desk and a chair sat in the corner that would have taken up a lot of space in a regular room, but were barely noticeable in this space.

The building was amazing but the way it's serviced seems to have run across sliightly harder times than it might have been used to in the past... it struck me as an ex-luxury hotel, which isn't making the money it used to. The shower fitting was broken, the three or four identical looking but different keys needed to get to the room from the front door, the towels and sheets didn't seem to get changed during our stay, etc. But for the price, the place was still fantastic and I'm currently booking a return visit.

Very handy location for Wenceslas square and old town (and the subway is just around the corner), and I can recommend Colloseum Pizza nearby, who insisted on giving me a free bottle of wine when I collected my (lovely) pizzas when they could tell I wasn't aware of any such offer!

We were relocated to an apartment at the other side of town, because the Venezia did not have a room for us. Although we ended up in a better location, just by Charles Bridge, we were somewhat disappointed with the quality of our accomodation, especially the two storeys of (crumbling) concrete winding staircase we had to negotiate with our suitcases. We had booked bed and breakfast in a hotel and ended up in an apartment instead. Although breakfast was provided we chose not to take it after the first morning. The accomodation was very basic, but at least it was clean. The maid came to clean and change bed linen once during our 6 night stay. I would definately recommend Prague, but only reccomend this property to young people on a shoestring budget who do not mind roughing it a bit.

The property was clean but was very basic. The hotel boiler was located in bathroom and made the room unbearable, no fans or air conditioning. Not enough pillows and tv was a waste of time. Breakfast very poor

Good budget accomodation. Simple clean rooms, comfortable beds. Main advantage is walking proximity to major tourist attractions and the old city centre.

We actually stayed in a 'sattelite' hotel facility of the Venezia which was only 50 yards down the road and we found it to be incredibly spacious with simple furniture and decor, quiet and with extremely helpful staff. If you're looking for a centrally located, straightforward, no frills, comfortable base to explore the wonderful city of Prague you'll not go far wrong here.
