The Adante Hotel is about a block further from Powell St than I would have liked. However, it was clean, reasonably priced and the staff were all super friendly and helpful. On the walk from Powell to the hotel, Geary is lined with art galleries that are fun to look at. Also, check out the shop, The Irish Castle. It is the best I've seen.

Clean hotel, very nicely renovated, all brand-new plumbing, attractive rooms. Most non-chain hotels in this area of San Francisco are dicey--century-old buildings with paper-thin walls and rattling plumbing--that vary in comfort based on how nicely the management keeps them up. The Adante was actually in very nice condition, the room was well stocked, and the restaurant on the ground floor was convenient and tasty. Recommended.

Checking in at midnight was no hassle. We got a free upgrade to a better room when the hotel realized that there was no internet connection in the room. It’s located in the heart of downtown. That’s the best part of it. 2 blocks away from the cable cars and the bus to the golden gate bridge stops right in front of the hotel. There’s a great Thai restaurant (sea food) in the next block. Walgreens also on that same block. The hotel breakfast in the mornings was ample not fabulous. The only negatives that I would have are that elevator takes an eternity to go up/down. And the room carpet looked like it needed to be replaced. I would personally recommend it to anyone who wants to stay there. I stayed for 3 nights we had a great vacation.

The decor was charming in a way, kind of homey. It was clean enough. The complimentary continental breakfast was fine, muffins and toast, and a couple juices and coffee/tea basically. The complimentary internet is wireless only in the lobby; in the room you either need an cat-5 cable, or you can rent one for the week for $5. There is an area close by that is a little sketchy, but it's really fine and you don't have to venture there. The hotel was quite good considering the low cost and convenient location (near Union Square, BART, MUNI buses, trains, cable cars). If you plan on not staying in the hotel room much, I would definitely recommend it for a bargain. If you are bothered by noise, you should probably request a room in the back of the building. It is particularly noisy in the front, especially with the window open.
