Best Western Irazu

Very nice hotel but beds are very uncomfortable. The free shuttle from the airport and the free breakfast were a definite plus. The staff and location and variety of services offered at this hotel are excellent if you can sleep on a hard mattress.

Staff was courteous and friendly. Free phone calls to North America, nice touch if you are from there. Now the mattress was hard as a rock and still trying to get out the kinks from my back. All in all would probably stay there again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Irazu. The rooms were clean and the grounds pretty. The front desk personnel were very friendly and helpful. There is a Denny's restaurant that offered a variety of food and had nice waiters. On our last day my youngest son fell ill with the flu and the security personnel checked on him and recommended a private hospital to go to. He even called a taxi that was waiting for us to take us to the hospital (they spoke English and were great there also). Two thumbs up!!!

Great for its price. We arrived at SJO late and the airport transfer minibus was there to drive us to the hotel. That's the reason we chose that hotel. We didn't have to deal with a cab. Rooms we OK. Breakfast was at Denny's. Staff was friendly and helpful. They have a happy hour eveyday from 5-6 with free drinks. Can't expect more than that

The front desk proved time and time again that they are patently incompetent. My rental car arrived, asked the desk to call my room and were told that I was not in the hotel. When confronted, they said that they were not familar with the company and did not want to bother me. As a result, I lost an afternoon at the beach waiting for the car to arrive again. Other mistakes included, not giving messages to friends and family as they checked in and double booking rooms for two couples traveling in our group.

The casino is a joke and ran out of dollar chips so we had to use Colones and Dollar chips mixed. We played 3 card poker for an hour and got fed up with the slow dealers and confusing chip denominations.

Stay someplace else!
