A 1880s Historical Landmark, Victorian Mansion is downtown Toronto's most unique accommodations, providing hospitality to travellers since 1915. The hotel has a rich and colourful history recognized by the Toronto Historical Board. It was originally built as a private home for the Gooderham family in 1882. In 1910, a large multi-room complex was added to the Victorian mansion, and was transformed into an exclusive girl's school today's Branson Hall. In 1915 the property was converted into a residential hotel; during the 1920's, Ernest Hemingway and his wife Hadley resided at the hotel. Today the hotel features 82 completely renovated guestrooms. The hotel is conveniently located close to shopping, dining, sightseeing, and Sherbourne subway station located across the street. The hotel offers in-room coffee, cable TV, free local calls, data ports, iron & board, hairdryers in every room and Continental breakfast included. Located across the street from the Sherbourne subway station for easy access to most attractions and also within walking distance to the Yorkville Shopping District and Restaurants.

Customer Rating:

The hotel room was clean. The breakfast buffet area was roomy, and well stocked with a wide assortment of food choices. The hotel was was within 15 minutes walking distance of Yorkville area and Jonge Streets: lots of restaurants and shops. The parking was great. We would would definitely stay here again.

We paid $92 total for a room for Saturday nite. Two double beds, which were very comfortable, nice bath, nice towels, nicely appointed room [lighted, tv, clock radio, decor, came with shampoo, etc.]. Included breakfast was buffet style, offered the usual stuff: cereal, eggs, fruit, waffles, pastries, juices, etc. Location was very good too, walking distance to much of the downtown if you like to walk. Subway wasn't running on the day we were there: transit workers went on strike...

The only clinker was having to pay $13 day to park the rental car. But we soon learned that is Toronto: 5 million people in search of a parking space. There is almost NO free parking in toronto. Meters start at $2 hour. So it eventually appeared $13 was almost a bargain.

so, in all, this place was very recommendable for the price. No objections.

We were unsure when we booked because the price was so good we thought it might be run-down. The Selby hotel was clean and the staff was excellent. The location is great, right next to a Metro station, but we found we could walk to all the places we wanted to be. Bloor and Yonge, the heart of downtown, was only a 5 minute walk, with a starbucks along the route! This was a romantic getaway for us and the Selby was perfect. Room was not large but it was clean and comfortable. We were in one of the mansion rooms, and it was nice. We had hoped for a pay-per-view movie one night but there are none on the hotel's TV service. The parking is tight -cost us $44 for three nights. The breakfast was excellent, boiled eggs, criossants, fruit, waffles, yogurt, cereal, great coffee. We recommend the Selby.

The staff was very heplfull and friendly, but everyything was worn out from the carpet to the furniture. The location was slightly off of the city centre but within walking distance of "Bloor and Yonge" streets.

The hotel looks beautiful on the outside. Parking is $13 per night. We had two rooms. We found ourselves locked in our room and unable to get out. The front desk did not respond to our calls as they were 'busy' making reservations. We had to get help from a guest passing by our room. The problem turned out to be a 'dead battery' on the interior of the room. We passed our hotel key out to the hotel guest who was able to open up our door. Finally, we were able to get through to the front desk where they immediately responded and moved us to another room. In addition, hotel rooms were cleaned daily but it was unpredictable when the room would be clean. One room was cleaned in the morning and the other was still waiting to be cleaned at 4 p.m. Find another hotel in Toronto.
