We took the advice we received on line and upgraded to the gold level. It is a beautiful old hotel and we heard that the rooms not on gold level are shabby. For the upgrade we had breakfast included each morning in the lounge reserved for gold level rooms only and there was cocktail hours between 5 and 7 where there were hors douvres. Food in the Veranda restaurant was just terrible. In all we loved the hotel. It was elegant and clearly the centerpiece of Victoria's inner harbor. Why just walk through this living piece of history when you can stay here? We would not have been able to stay here without the great deal we got on Skoosh.

It's a beautiful hotel, very elegant and turn of the previous century, fantastic staff but the rooms could and should be updated.
