Centrally located downtown in Washington DC's Penn Quarter neighborhood, this hotel is ideally situated near many museum and theater attractions in addition to the Verizon Center where professional sports teams including the Washington DC men's and women's basketball teams and their hockey team play as well as other concerts and events are held. The hotel exists as an adaptive reuse project in what was most recently the Tariff Building and has served at different times as the General Post Office, and a Civil War Commissary. Constructed in 1839 and designed by architect Robert Mills, the building is the second significant Federal Building constructed after the Capitol in Washington. Large columns and an all marble and iron beam construction highlight this National Historic Register jewel which occupies and entire city block.
