I had a feeling that the Presidential Inauguration of 2009 was going to be a special one, so in March 2008 I made a reservation through Skoosh to stay at the Melrose Hotel for around $150.00/night. When election day came, and then the Inauguration approached, I heard that prices of the hotels in the DC area were skyrocketing up to $700.00/night. I was worried that my reservation would not be honored. However, when we got to the hotel everything was fine and the hotel was perfect! Everyone was welcoming and accommodating. We were able to walk to all of the festivities and could avoid using our car or the Metro. All of our expectations were met, and the hotel helped to make our inauguration experience a memorable one.

The service at the Melrose was superb. The front desk was always sharing with us and making THE BEST recommendations. Restaurants, cultural events, music venues, they made us reservations that got us the BEST seats and everyone always asked about our outing and wanted us to elaborate on our experience. It was centrally located and we walked or took the metro everywhere. No need for a taxi. Busses were also convenient. This place is on the top of my list for service rendered.

The location of the hotel was excellent we could walk or take the metro anywhere. The staff was absolutely charming. They recommended wonderful restaurants, procured us reservations for restaurants and entertainment and suggested outings. Upon return they would inquire how we enjoyed the day. I would certainly recommend the Melrose to anyone visiting the D.C. area. The room itself was nice, clean and well equipped. The bathroom was rather small but the vanity area was fine. The hotel was quiet and the only noise we ever heard from the room was motorcades.

I've stayed here many times. You have to pay a lot, but you're paying for the location, which is a short walk from the White House in one direction and Georgetown in the other, with the Foggy Bottom Metro station just around the corner. The hotel is reasonably comfortable, but nothing spectacular. The TV didn't get very good reception while we were there, but we weren't there to watch TV. I pay particular attention to exercise facilities, as I am a marathon runner and like to have a treadmill nearby in case of inclement weather. The facility at this hotel is below par, with only a few cheap machines. On the bright side, if the weather is good the concierge is happy to provide you with a map of either a 3 or 6 mile roundtrip run to monuments on the mall. All in all, I'd recommend this to people who want a good location in D.C. and aren't too picky about the little things.
