Eldon Luxury Suites is convenient to Washington Convention Center

Plusses: The Eldon Luxury Suites is convenient to Washington Convention Center, which is why I chose to stay there. I was not looking for anything fancy - just convenient. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was newly renovated, roof-top exercise room, beautifully decorated (glass art hangs in hallways), and luxuriously large (separate bedroom, kitchen/dining/living area, closets). The shower has a body massage feature. The price was also right.
Minuses: The neighborhood is not pretty- there are several abandoned buildings with boarded up windows and an occasional homeless person resting on the stoop next door. No one was aggressive or threatening, but it was disconcerting to have to walk past this, especially as a single woman late at night. This situation is likely to change soon, as there was much construction going on and I believe those buildings will soon be razed and rebuilt - probably as luxury hotels.

Quality room, that is near a Metro Rail and a Circulator bus route. Great breakfast fair, unexpected value. As others have mentioned the area is a bit rough though not to the point of being unnerving. Room temperature control was a problem for us we were staying in late February (the AC loop) was unavailable to cool the room as the temperatures outdoors bounce between 77 and 20 degrees F.

It is a very nice luxury suite in Washington D.C. which costs less than $100/night, while at the front desk it costs $250/night. It is my first experience with suites. Very impressive! But the check-in process is scary. I did not confirm before the trip (which I will definitely remember to do next time as long as I am not booking through the hotel's website). When I got there at around 10pm, the front desk has no record of my reservation. That freaks me out. I tried to call skoosh (only then when I realize it is a British number), but no one answered. I then tried another number (this is a Spanish number) from my online record. It went through and thank god that the travel agency got it right. Except for the scary check-in experience, really nothing to complain.
